Joyce Williamson from VIEW sent me a link a while back pointing to the many benefits of military veterans having assistance dogs, not just for visually impaired veterans. In doing some research, I found there is more to assistance dogs than meets the eye and there are several great organizations out there doing good things (http://www.aw2.army.mil/supporters/servicedogs.html). I recommend that MOS Chapters make an effort to have some type of fund raising event to support one of these organizations, and perhaps schedule one annually. It's a great way to introduce the MOS to outsiders and prospective members, and it's a subtle way of showing the possibilities of dealing with people with disabilities. In short, it's a win-win operation. MOS wins by the attention they received; veterans win by the dogs they receive. Give it some consideration. It may be just the right door opener you need in your Chapter's area!
