American servicemen and women deployed around the world, and wounded warriors recuperating in overseas or stateside hospitals, love to receive mail, especially cards. You can make your own cards, using any number of tips found on the Internet or you can send store-bought cards. However, avoid cards with any controversial topic or picture as the soldier may be deployed in a country that does not condone the topic.
Sending Messages
Some companies or nonprofit organizations may have systems in place to allow you to send email messages of gratitude to American troops. They need to hear from you and it is our responsibility to thank them for their service and sacrifices. See:
Unless you personally know a deployed serviceman or woman, your best bet is to participate in an established program. The organizers know the rules, sensitivity, and protocol. Our first duty is not to endanger the lives of our servicemen and women.
Holiday Cards
4th Annual Holiday Mail for Heroes
The program ended for 2010. Please check back in October 2011 for the next holiday cards program from the American Red Cross. Thank you to all who participated.
