Former MOS Treasurer Killed in Accident 


U.S. Navy Veteran Elena Maria AlvarezMilitary Outreach for Service is very sad to report that Elena Maria Alvarez, former treasurer of MOS, died in a motorcycle accident in Wethersfield, CT on October 25, 2014. She was 37 years old. Elena was the mother of two children, Emani Alvarez and Julian Diaz, and wife of James Lankford.
Elena served her country in the U.S. Navy. She became a wounded warrior upon incurring service-connected injuries while fighting in Operation Iraqi Freedom, defending the United States.
Elena was selected in 2012 to be a veteran intern with the IRS Wounded Warrior Program.  She pursued a MSM in Information Technology for Public Service and held a B.A. in Criminal Justice with honors from Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, NJ. She enjoyed motorcycle riding and was a member of the FLNY Rydez.
In August 2012, Elena volunteered to serve as treasurer for Military Outreach for Service. She resigned from MOS and the Internal Revenue Service when she was hired by the Department of Veterans Affairs in early 2013.
