RIF Preference

I guess I shouldn't complain, since I am drawing a nice Air Force retirement check, but somehow, I cannot see the rationale to exclude reitred military from veterans preference on RIF.  It is almost like my 22 years of active duty doesn't count.  Retired military receive a 5 point preference for hiring, but when RIF time comes, it is as if they never served.  Oh well, I'm retirement eligible, and will be exercising that option in about 12 months, so I really don't care about RIF, but for those military retirees who may be subject to any upcoming RIF actions, this just seems so unfair.

RIF Reference

You do have preference.  See
http://www.opm.gov/employ/veterans/html/vetguide.asp#2Why for details additional info.

5 U.S.C. 1302

Veterans' Preference in Reduction in Force

Veterans have advantages over nonveterans in a reduction in force (RIF). Also, special provisions apply in determining whether retired military members receive preference in RIF and whether their military service is counted. This chapter deals with RIF in the competitive service; some, but not all, of the provisions apply in the excepted service.

Additional RIF Preference

If you are a 10-point veteran or a more disabled vet, you may also have a higher priority.
